As part of the Rick Steve’s Tour, we got a walking tour of Ennis with Jane. There is so much incredible history from Ennis, and Jane masterfully guided us through it.

It was my privilege to be guided by Jane around the medieval town. Jane is a warm and engaging raconteur with a wealth of stories, and her PhD studies in history are evident in the depth and breadth of her knowledge. A wonderful way to experience Ennis.

While there are many lovely country towns in the west of Ireland, you sometimes need a person with a great understanding of local history and the ability to communicate it. Jane is that person. In showing you how Ennis grew through the years, she gives great insights into life in medieval Ireland and links it with the today’s bustling town. A highlight of our recently holiday.

Our first afternoon in Ennis, County Clare, Ireland, we took a walking tour with Jane O’Brien. Our group was small and friendly, and Jane led us on an interesting, informational, witty, and beautiful walking tour of Ennis. Jane knows her stuff. She is working on a doctorate in history so she has chops, but she also has a great sense of pacing and of reading her audience. Her tour was paced beautifully. She stopped at particularly important spots, explaining the history by giving us the right amount of information to aid in comprehension, but not so much that it felt like a warm-up to her dissertation. Jane was warm, friendly, interested in her audience, and extraordinarily fond of Ennis. Take an hour and a half from your day, pay 10 euros, and let Jane beguile you with stories of her lovely city.
